About The Position

The Lead Pipelayer will work effectively with Construction Manager, Superintendent, Foreman and peers in the successful rehabilitation and repairs of a variety of water, sewer and storm water lines for production, safety, quality, and training. This role involves planning, organizing, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating the work of facilities maintenance staff within the division. The lead is responsible for ensuring construction execution complies with plans and specifications, attending pre-construction meetings, and providing leadership and supervision at project sites. They will also be responsible for inspecting work for quality and specification compliance, performing general construction activities, and analyzing and resolving work problems with residents or crew members. Documentation of progress and redlines is also a key part of the role.

Requirements

High school education or GED
Minimum 3 years of pipeline installation experience in an outdoor construction environment and excavation maintenance utility experience in water, sewer and Storm sewer repair preferred.
Valid Colorado driver’s license and a clear or acceptable MVR
Have a CDL A or required to obtain a CDL A within 180 days; with required endorsements.
OSHA-10/Trench Safety Training
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Able to work well in stressful situations
Basic technology skills with laptops, tablets and phones, reporting daily work completed, inspections electronically.
Assist with laying pipes, cutting pipes, and bolting pipe fittings and connections
Water sewer and storm sewer construction experience required
Experience with Water, Sewer and Storm Sewer Main Repair
Experience with Gate Valve Repairs and Replacement
Experience with Fire Hydrant Repairs and Replacements
Experience with Water Taps ¾” through 2”
Experience with Sewer and Storm Sewer Point Repairs
Ability to properly use instruments for grade
Knowledge of maintenance to distribution and collection system
Maintain a clean and safe work site
Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends as needed
Ability to be on call (on call compensation provided)
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to listen and comprehend instructions accurately, processes, safety procedures, installation techniques and equipment use
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Advanced skills needed to work in a high technology environment, work with Computerized Maintenance Management System and other computer periphery equipment.

Strong skills required to work with the tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, and construction.
Strong skills needed to use mathematical formulas and conversion tables.

Responsibilities

Adheres to the requirements in the most current and applicable version of City of Englewood Administrative Policy Manual and/or the Englewood Employees Association Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Maintains satisfactory and harmonious relationships with the public and other employees; exhibits a high degree of professionalism, initiative, & tact on an ongoing and continual basis.
Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of the facilities maintenance staff within the division.
Ensure construction execution complies with plans and specifications
Attend pre-construction and other meetings related to city projects
Front-line lead employees are responsible for performing, as well as leading, training and directing the activities of a crew in the repair of underground utilities, ie: water, sewer and storm sewer
Effectively manage and maintain the equipment for successful completion of each project
Provide leadership and supervision at project sites and enforce policies and working rules
Continually inspect work performed by crew for quality and specification compliance
Perform general construction activities, when applicable
Analyze and resolve work problems with residents or crew members in discovering the resolutions
Prepare and submit for review production, safety, time, and other reports, as necessary
