About The Position

Responsible for the daily operation of Schweitzer Utility & Water Company’s water and wastewater systems. This role ensures the proper treatment and distribution of domestic water supply, maintains the safety and security of water storage systems, and monitors production and flow volumes. The operator will perform maintenance and repair of supply, storage, and distribution systems, install or replace equipment, and respond to field maintenance issues. They will also maintain daily records and documentation to comply with DEQ and other relevant regulations, and adhere to water testing requirements. A strong understanding of system infrastructure is crucial. For the wastewater system, responsibilities include operating storage lagoons, treatment, and land application systems, monitoring inflow, distributing wastewater via land application systems, and collecting water samples to ensure compliance with established standards. Environmental and operational safety and security of wastewater collection, storage, and distribution systems must be maintained.

Requirements

  • Minimum education required- GED or Highschool Diploma
  • At least 6 months experience preferred in a related position
  • Must have working knowledge in the use of hand and power tools and be mechanically inclined with good trouble-shooting skills.
  • Familiarity with, and ability to operate, heavy equipment helpful.
  • Familiarity with plumbing and pipe installation helpful.
  • Basic computer skills (data entry) required.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs on your own and with assistance up to 100lbs.
  • Expected to stand/walk entirety of shift.
  • Will regularly walk on slick and slippery surfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute wastewater via land application to designated areas using drip irrigation systems, adhering to hydraulic and nutrient loading parameters.
  • Collect water samples from monitoring wells, storage facilities, and waterways to ensure compliance with established standards.
  • Respond to field maintenance issues as needed.
  • Maintain environmental and operational safety and security of wastewater collection, storage, and distribution systems.
  • Develop a strong understanding of system infrastructure.
