About The Position

The Utilities Supervisor maintains a high-functioning work environment and provides well-maintained, uninterrupted, safe, and efficient utilities services for all resort users and areas. The Supervisor is focused on safety, efficiency, and being approachable and courteous. The Utilities Supervisor reports to the Facilities Manager or designate and works closely with all resort departments, regularly liaising with external personnel, regulators, vendors, and manufacturers.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to lead a team, be self-motivated, good time management and maintaining budget goals.
  • Certified in operating a Class II Wastewater Treatment and Class I Water Treatment facility in AB.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid AB driver’s license.
  • Must be positive, mature, and friendly attitude along with being neat, alert, punctual and dependable.
  • Willing and able to perform all duties and departmental tasks.
  • Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g., weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours.
  • Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions e.g., appropriate footwear, layers, gloves.
  • Strong self-starter, reliable, calm under pressure, with a high degree of versatility and personal initiative.
  • Effectively communicate in English, both written and verbally and in a confidential capacity.
  • Maintain professional conduct when acting as a company representative on or off duty, and online.
  • Conduct, attend, chaperone, and actively participate in meetings, training, and team events.
  • Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
  • This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting (up to 25kg), pushing/pulling (up to 45kg), kneeling, crouching.
  • Occasionally climb ladders or inclined stairs up to 5m.
  • Must be able to hike and move around easily in an alpine environment.
  • This role maintains/operates machinery, vehicles, and works around moving equipment.
  • This role maintains and operates hand/powered tools/equipment.
  • Candidates may be required to provide their own transportation to the resort base.
  • Candidates are required to provide and maintain CSA approved safety footwear.
  • This role has potential exposure to industrial chemicals/agents/sewage e.g., solvents, oils, grease, chlorine, acids, human waste.

  • Computer skills an asset - experience with Microsoft suite of programs and online payroll/HRIS systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the training, work, and actions of employees in the Utilities department while maintaining a positive department culture.
  • Constant monitoring of all utility systems, water treatment, water supply, wastewater treatment, and fuel systems and supply (propane and bulk).
  • Attention to detail in critical aspects of maintenance is required e.g., preventive, corrective, operational.
  • Timely completion of documentation e.g., worksite inspections, work orders/PM records, employee training, safe work plans, AHS and additional provincial requirements.
  • Maintaining effective and complete inventories e.g., purchasing, ordering, tracking, and receiving.
  • Maintaining effective schedules and properly assigning department tasks to meet business needs.
  • Communicating unusual operating conditions e.g., mechanical, operational, environmental.
  • Communicating and adhering to company initiatives, policies, relevant legislation, manufacturer guidelines e.g., OHS, environmental protection and enhancement act, AHS, Canada National Parks Act.
  • Conducting performance reviews, assisting in hiring, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Ensuring department functions are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.
