About The Position

The SPR/Utilities Operations Apprentice is a year-long program that includes a comprehensive training program at SPR and the Allen Water Treatment Plant. Apprentices will spend 6 months at SPR and 6 months with utilities. Apprentices are expected to arrive for their shift ready to learn and communicate any schedule conflicts with their assigned supervisor in advance when possible. Apprentices will learn under the mentorship of licensed operators and will help keep track of the progress of their learning objectives as defined in the training calendar and apprenticeship program.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Clean Driving Record
By the 6-month mark, apprentices are required to achieve either a D Water or D Wastewater license in order to continue their apprenticeship.
Basic knowledge of principles of the Water Treatment Plant Operations discipline.
Readily learn and adopt new skills and technologies that can improve water treatment plant operations and maintenance activities.
Understand chemical and mechanical treatment technologies, their principles of operation and application in specific tasks or processes.
Possess troubleshooting competency to evaluate, diagnose and repair operational issues throughout the plant site.
Actively learning through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning fodder.
Self-directed learner: readily applies knowledge gained from experience to new situations.
Willing to accept and incorporate feedback; actively seeks out feedback from others where appropriate.
Follow instructions and learn from mistakes.
Generate, evaluate and implement solutions to operational problems.
Apply known solutions to existing and novel problems; demonstrate situational awareness.

Pass in-person interviews, reference checks, and background checks, which may include local police check, DMV check, drug screen, and fingerprint checks through CBI/FBI.
