About The Position

The Utilities Metering Systems Technician is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electric and water metering systems. This role involves working with various types of meters that monitor utilities such as chilled and heating hot water, domestic water, steam, and irrigation. The technician will also assist with the installation and setup of temperature sensors and document metering locations. This position requires driving a university vehicle to different university locations and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulatory issues and technological changes in utility metering.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of digital electrical or water metering.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience installing electrical meters and meter related PLCs.
  • Three years experience in installation, maintenance, or repair of instrument rated digital electric or water meters, programming of electric or water meters, or other related experience.
  • Experience working with 24v, 120/240v wiring.
  • Capable of interpreting electrical and mechanical construction drawings and specifications.
  • Journeyman Electrician License.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation of electric metering devices, and meters that monitor chilled and heating hot water, domestic water, steam, and irrigation metering.
  • Assist with installation and set up of temperature sensors.
  • Drive a university vehicle to different university locations.
  • Maintain up-to-date working knowledge of relevant regulatory issues and technological changes in the metering of utilities.
  • Assist with the documentation of metering locations.
