About The Position

The Utility Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous manufacturing operations. This role supports multiple maintenance functions including mechanical systems, utilities, and general facility upkeep across the plant.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Currently hold City of Grand Rapids or State of MI boiler license required or must obtain license after one year of service.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, or utility systems within a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, pumps, motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and facility utilities.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures and perform repairs independently.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs regularly.
  • Prolonged standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, noise, and industrial settings.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on manufacturing equipment and facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, water systems, pumps, and mechanical components.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues and implement timely corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain utility infrastructure such as boilers, chillers, air compressors, piping systems, and related equipment.
  • Assist with equipment installation, relocation, and modifications as needed.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders and emergency repair requests.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
