About The Position

This role involves the repair and servicing of fire hydrants, locating underground utilities, and performing preventative maintenance on water and sewer lines. The specialist will also be responsible for reading water meters, entering data, checking for and repairing leaks, and installing/removing meters. Additionally, the position assists with repairs and preventative maintenance on pumps and motors, uses hand tools for water and sewer repairs, and makes water and sewer taps. Snow and ice removal, including potential 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays, is also a part of the duties. The role may require assisting in other Public Services areas and contributing to a positive work environment.

Requirements

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required
Some related experience in the construction/plumbing industry is preferred
Possession of a valid and appropriate driver's licenses
Ability to obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement by end of probation period
Ability to read and comprehend
Ability to speak and communicate effectively using correct English
Must be able to wear self-contained breathing apparatus which may be necessary for entry into confined space

Responsibilities

Repairs and services (includes testing) fire hydrants
Locates underground utilities using maps, rods, and electronic equipment
Assists in preventative maintenance on water and sewer lines
Reads water meters, entering data into portable handheld meter reading devices
Checks meters for leaks, repairs as needed
Installs and removes meters
Assists in repairs of water and sewer lines
Assists with preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, and equipment
Uses hand tools related to water and sewer repairs
Makes water and sewer taps
Snow/Ice removal (which includes 12 hour shifts possibly nights, weekends & holidays)
Assists in other areas of Public Services as needed
Contributes to a positive work environment
