Follow us at… Facebook Instagram LinkedIn Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: The Utilities Laborer performs manual labor tasks to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, including water, sewer, storm, gas, or electrical infrastructure. This role involves preparing job sites, handling materials, and assisting skilled trades workers to ensure safe and efficient completion of projects.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Repeat tasks of short duration according to a sect procedure.
  • Knowledge of trade tools, equipment, materials, methods, and techniques.
  • On-the-job training required.
  • May require driver’s license.
  • Minimum OSHA 10 required.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, walk, and work at heights for extended periods of time.
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Lift and carry materials, sometimes weighing 50 to 100 pounds.
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds, and other objects while carrying tools and equipment.
  • Must always wear protective or safety equipment, i.e., safety boots/shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats and follow safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a higher-level operations or maintenance employee, perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and installation of utility systems and associated facilities
  • Assist technicians, equipment operators, and other tradespeople with utility installation, maintenance, and repair work
  • Clean and prepare worksites by removing debris, excavating materials, and setting up necessary equipment
  • Dig trenches, backfill excavations, and compact soil to support underground utility installation
  • Handle, transport, and stage materials such as pipe, conduit, fittings, gravel, and other construction supplies
  • Operate hand tools and power tools such as shovels, jackhammers, drills, saws, and compactors
  • Follow instructions from supervisors to perform manual labor tasks including digging, trenching, lifting, and material placement
  • Place and maintain warning signs, barricades, and traffic control devices to ensure a safe work zone
  • Assist with the setup and removal of trench boxes, shoring, and other temporary structures
  • Maintain awareness of underground utilities and job site hazards to prevent damage or injury
  • Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment
  • Perform other labor-related duties as assigned in support of utility operations
