Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1–3 years of experience in utilities, public works, engineering support, construction, infrastructure management, environmental services, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record that meets City criteria

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical training in a related field.
  • Experience in utility inspections or environmental compliance.
  • Familiarity with grease interceptors and backflow devices.
  • Experience with data tracking systems or inspection software.
  • Understanding of local government operations or public works functions.
  • Relevant certificates in water distribution, wastewater collection, or utility inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Managing administrative tasks such as handling Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and overseeing the permitting process. Ensuring that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Reviewing development plans and conducting field inspections to ensure projects adhere to municipal standards. This requires attention to detail and a thorough understanding of regulations.
  • Collecting data and managing assets as part of utility compliance programs and capital projects. Efforts will help maintain the integrity and efficiency of the utility systems.
  • Providing excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns about utility services. Collaborating with utility staff, contractors, developers, and regulatory agencies to support water and wastewater systems effectively.
