About The Position

In this position as an Utilities Attorney Examiner 1 you will preside as an administrative law judge over Commission cases and draft decisions on behalf of the Commissioners, review initial case filings to determine appropriate procedural requirements, conduct settlement conferences in complaint cases, resolve procedural and discovery issues in assigned cases, conduct hearings and resolve evidentiary issues in natural gas, electric and power siting cases as well as other cases as assigned, analyze the testimony and other evidence presented at hearings, draft administrative law judge entries, proposed Commission entries and orders, provide training to Legal Aides and College Interns and other duties as assigned. The mission of the organization is to assure all residential and business consumers access to adequate, safe and reliable utility services at fair prices, while facilitating an environment that provides competitive choices. The Legal Department's attorney examiners conduct public hearings, issue procedural entries, and draft the opinions and orders issued by the Commission. They also answer inquiries about public hearings and case processing.

Requirements

  • License to practice law within State of Ohio
  • Attorney/Legal Technical Skills
  • Attorney/Legal Professional Skills: Critical Thinking, Decision Making, Analyzation
  • Biennial renewal of license to practice law (required to remain in the classification after employment)
  • Applications must clearly indicate how the applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the position
  • All answers to the supplemental questions must be supported by information provided in the work experience &/or education sections on your civil service application
  • If you don’t demonstrate how, you meet minimum qualifications in the supplemental questions, your application may be disqualified from consideration
