About The Position

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, this role is responsible for calibrating, installing, and troubleshooting HVAC instrument systems. The HVAC Mechanic classification will trouble-shoot, repair and maintain various air conditioning and refrigeration units, including window air-conditioning units, crane air conditioning units, water coolers, walk-in coolers, chillers, chiller pumps, condenser control valves, refrigerators, ice machines, and systems containing refrigerants like Freon or SRI. This includes cold recovery and cold traps. HVAC Mechanics will also perform electrical maintenance related to troubleshooting and repairs of HVAC systems up to the first breaker, disconnect, plug, or receptacle. They will maintain coils with Freon/SRI or other refrigerants, and perform maintenance on self-contained units and rolatron filters. Additionally, they will maintain outside units and stand-alone units within the building, including belts, filters, and motors. HVAC Mechanics will also change filters in systems that provide cooling.

Requirements

  • Must be in current position for one (1) year or greater to be eligible to apply (Internal employees).
  • Ability to wear company-provided respiratory and other personal protective equipment when required.
  • Pre-Employment Physical (office or field work).
  • Drug Screen.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain "L" or "Q" Clearance one year from hire date.
  • Background Check.
  • Any site-required training.
  • Prospective employees must be available to start work within a reasonable timeframe after acceptance of employment offer (typically 30 days or less).

Responsibilities

  • Calibrating, installing, and troubleshooting HVAC instrument systems.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining window air-conditioning units.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining crane air conditioning units to the load side of the last disconnect and controls.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining water coolers, walk-in coolers, chillers, chiller pumps, condenser control valves, refrigerators, and ice machines.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining systems containing Freon, SRI, or other refrigerants, including cold recovery and cold traps.
  • Performing electrical maintenance in support of troubleshooting and repairs of HVAC systems back to the first breaker, disconnect, plug, or receptacle.
  • Maintaining air conditioning and refrigeration units, including installation, removal, and repair.
  • Performing preventative maintenance, evaporator and condenser cleaning, and replacement of belts, motors, and filters in HVAC units.
  • Changing filters in systems that provide cooling.
  • Maintaining coils with Freon/SRI or other refrigerant.
  • Maintaining bearings, belts, filters, and performing PMs on self-contained units and rolatron filters.
  • Maintaining the outside unit and stand-alone units contained in the building, including maintenance of belts, filters, and motors.
  • Performing HVAC related tasks such as Air Operated Motors, Pneumatic Controllers, and Calibration of freeze stats, thermostats, and Fire stats (as per Instrument Mechanic duties).
  • Performing HVAC related tasks such as installing casings, support brackets, flashing, drip pans pertaining to window type air conditioners, and repair/installation of louvers, ducts, insulation, and airflow meters (as per Sheetmetal Mechanic duties).
  • Replacing ceiling filters for air-conditioning units and filters in make-up air ducts to exhaust hoods.
  • Removing ceiling panels in support of other groups and cleaning reheat coils.
  • Repair of louvers related to ventilation systems.
