About The Position

The Virginia State Golf Association is seeking a USGA P.J. Boatwright Tournament Intern for the upcoming golf season. The internship provides exposure to all aspects of golf administration and the opportunity to help a dynamic team deliver golf events, programs, and services to the golf community. Interns travel extensively throughout Virginia to assist with competitions and qualifying events. The internship lasts three months, from May through August, with start and end dates flexible to accommodate the school schedule. The USGA P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program was established in 1991 to give short-term, entry-level experience to people interested in pursuing careers in golf administration, while helping state and regional golf associations promote amateur golf.

Requirements

College degree completed or in process.
Valid driver’s license.
Interest in golf.
Willingness to travel within Virginia.
Organization of tasks and exceptional time management skills.
Strong work ethic and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to lift 40 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and work outside in extreme weather and temperatures.

Responsibilities

Assist with competition operations, including registration, starting, scoring, course setup, pace-of-play monitoring, and communication with tournament staff.
Assist with course marking, determining hole locations, and taking hole-by-hole notes.
Maintain the tournament entry database.
Learn to use Golf Genius tournament management software to create events, pairings, and tee sheets, and enter scores.
Track and update player of the year points.
Assist with volunteer management.
Respond to emails and phone calls about general tournament or qualifier-related inquiries.
