About The Position

This position is for a User Liaison/Advocate to serve as a bridge between the research user community and the Integrated Modeling Computing Center (IMCC). The advocate acts as a strategic partner to research groups, ensuring that user requirements—ranging from compute and storage needs to data management strategies—are clearly understood, documented, and met. This role is critical for coordinating large-scale onboarding, managing resource allocations, and facilitating the complex data migrations and planning necessary for high-performance computing success. Ideal candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of the scientific research lifecycle, and the ability to translate complex technical requirements into operational success.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of high-performance computing environments, parallel file systems, and large-scale data workflows.
  • Proven experience in data management planning, data curation, and the challenges associated with moving large scientific datasets.
  • Exceptional ability to translate complex technical requirements between scientific research teams and systems engineering staff.
  • Proficiency in tracking project milestones, managing resource allocation budgets, and utilizing project management tools to document requirements and progress.
  • Strong commitment to scientific research success, with the ability to navigate organizational processes to ensure users have the resources needed to achieve their research goals.
  • Ability to develop clear documentation for data management plans, migration procedures, and best practices tailored to research users.
  • A BS degree and 3+ years’ experience in relevant work areas.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Investigation through NASA.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point of contact and dedicated advocate for assigned science research groups.
  • Proactively communicate system status, roadmap changes, and service updates to ensure user groups are fully informed and prepared.
  • Conduct in-depth discovery sessions with research teams to understand their computational, storage, and data-intensive requirements.
  • Translate these scientific needs into actionable resource requests for the IMCC technical team.
  • Oversee the lifecycle of resource allocations.
  • Work with users to define appropriate compute and storage quotas, track usage against allocations, and proactively manage renewals or adjustments to prevent project disruptions.
  • Partner with researchers to support the creation, implementation, and maintenance of Data Management Plans.
  • Ensure that DMPs align with IMCC capabilities and institutional data policies.
  • Orchestrate the technical and logistical coordination for migrating research groups into or out of the IMCC environment.
  • Manage data transfer workflows, assess pre-migration data readiness, and support the onboarding of new workflows.
  • Act as the voice of the user community within internal IMCC operational meetings.
  • Identify recurring pain points, suggest service improvements, and advocate for user-centric solutions to increase research productivity.
