About The Position

Gordon Chevrolet is looking for an experienced, results-driven Used Car Manager to co-manage our pre-owned department in Orange Park, Florida. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who understands that a successful used-car department starts with buying the right inventory, pricing it correctly, merchandising it aggressively, and developing a sales team that knows how to sell it. The ideal candidate is a proven automotive professional with strong experience in vehicle acquisition, used-car appraisal, inventory management, merchandising, pricing, and sales management.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Used Car Manager, Pre-Owned Manager, or similar automotive management role.
  • Strong knowledge of used-vehicle acquisition and appraisal.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a sales team.
  • A strong understanding of used-car pricing, market analysis, and inventory merchandising.
  • Experience managing aging inventory and maximizing inventory turn.
  • Strong negotiation and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • A track record of meeting or exceeding sales and profitability objectives.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A hands-on, accountable management style.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to meet dealership employment requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the acquisition of high-quality, marketable used vehicles through trade-ins, auctions, dealer purchases, and other acquisition channels.
  • Evaluate vehicles based on market demand, condition, history, mileage, equipment, recon costs, and expected profitability.
  • Work closely with the appraisal team to ensure accurate and disciplined trade valuations.
  • Maintain a healthy inventory mix based on local market demand and dealership objectives.
  • Monitor inventory age and take decisive action on aging units.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with auction representatives, wholesalers, and other vehicle sources.
  • Balance gross profit objectives with inventory turn and overall used-car profitability.
  • Own the pricing strategy for the used-car inventory.
  • Monitor competitive pricing, market position, supply, demand, and vehicle-level performance.
  • Ensure every vehicle is photographed, described, priced, and presented professionally across all digital retail channels.
  • Work closely with the internet and marketing teams to maximize online visibility and lead generation.
  • Ensure vehicles move efficiently through recon and onto the front line.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve merchandising, pricing, and marketability.
  • Lead, coach, motivate, and hold the used-car sales team accountable for performance.
  • Set clear expectations for appointments, follow-up, closing ratios, gross profit, units sold, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct regular sales meetings, one-on-ones, and performance reviews.
  • Develop salespeople through hands-on coaching and consistent accountability.
  • Work with the General Sales Manager and dealership leadership to achieve overall sales and profitability objectives.
  • Help create a high-performance culture while maintaining a professional, customer-focused environment.
  • Track key used-car metrics including gross profit, turn rate, days supply, age, acquisition cost, recon expense, and inventory ROI.
  • Analyze inventory performance and make data-driven decisions.
  • Establish and maintain processes that maximize used-car gross and volume without sacrificing inventory health.
  • Identify underperforming inventory quickly and develop strategies to move it.
  • Maintain strong communication with service, recon, accounting, and sales departments.
