US State and Local Tax, Manager

About The Position

As a Manager in our US State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, you'll work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. PwC Professional skills and responsibilities for this management level include but are not limited to: Support state tax advisory engagements (e.g., nexus analyses, voluntary disclosures, and sales tax analyses) across industries, with a focus on practical, well-supported recommendations. Support US SALT team with matters associated with cross border mergers and acquisitions ranging from due diligence, acquisition and divestiture planning, cross border financing structures, as well as post-merger integrations. Address substandard work or work that does not meet firm's/client's expectations. Proactively assist in the management of a portfolio of clients, while reporting to senior members of the SALT team. Demonstrate ownership for the quality of the entire file, quality of client service and hold other team members accountable. Lead and role model a tech-enabled Tax practice, by leveraging automation and digital tools to optimize engagement profitability. Use AI in day-to-day work to deliver better, faster, and more profitable outcomes. Use feedback and reflection to develop self-awareness, leverage personal strengths and address development areas. Build and maintain effective working relationships with client stakeholders through responsive communication, professionalism, and attention to detail. Coach and review the work of junior team members, contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team environment. Stay current on state and local tax developments and proactively share relevant insights with the team. Participate in business development efforts by helping identify opportunities for new/existing clients and supporting proposals. Uphold the firm's code of ethics and business conduct. Requirements

  • A demonstrated commitment to valuing differences, developing and coaching diverse teams, and ensuring diverse perspectives are heard.
  • 3-5 years' experience in US state corporate.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to synthesize complex rules and facts into clear conclusions.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities, interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage priorities across multiple engagements and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • US CPA or Canadian CPA or other relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience with AI-enabled tools (e.g., Copilot, Harvey or similar) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated interest in AI and emerging technologies is considered an asset.
  • US inbound (cross-border tax) experience is desirable.
  • Experience with OneSource or GoSystem and US tax research applications such as Checkpoint, BNA or CCH is considered an asset.
