About The Position

FanDuel is looking for a US Sports Trader to join their Trading Team, helping to shape the odds and betting markets that customers engage with. The role requires a passion for sports such as NBA, MLB, NCAAF, NCAAB, and WNBA. The seasonality of sports will determine the specific focus of the successful candidate. No prior trading or gambling experience is required, and the company is willing to support growth into a trading role for individuals with a numbers background, analytics studies, sports industry experience, or a strong interest in sports like Basketball, Football, or Baseball. This is a hybrid position requiring office presence in Jersey City, NJ, with predominantly in-office work for training and core tasks. The office environment is open space with a hot-desk setup, multiple monitors, TVs, and constant noise. The role involves regular late shifts (2:30pm–10:30pm ET), including assisting with live betting, and requires weekend work. Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned to ensure operational flexibility and meet evolving business needs.

Requirements

  • A deep passion for either NBA, MLB, NCAAF, NCAAB or WNBA (more than one league is a plus).
  • A bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience. Recent or soon-to-be graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong comfort with numbers, odds and probability, and quick mental math skills.
  • Understanding of how odds relate to probability (%) and how betting markets work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity to research and stay ahead of news and trends.
  • Comfortable making decisions under pressure, while staying responsive to rapidly changing information.
  • Proficiency with Excel.
  • Ability to work outside typical business hours, including nights and weekends. Traders work roughly 50-70 weekend shifts per year (only ever 5 days per week).
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S and to obtain a DGE license for trading activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AI tooling (SQL, Python, or R is a bonus, but not required.)

Responsibilities

  • Learn to set and manage prices on football/basketball/baseball games, player stats, and futures markets, from pre-game to live in-play odds, using in-house tools and models.
  • Monitor real-time news, stats, and industry pricing to guide trading decisions.
  • Trade live games in real time, making quick adjustments to pricing based on game flow, key events, and customer behavior.
  • Collaborate with other Traders and work cross-functionally with other teams within the Risk & Trading department or across the wider FanDuel business.
  • Help brainstorm new products or ways to improve the customer experience, considering how fans engage with the game.
  • Gain confidence and expertise to price markets independently, manage risk, and shape the sports betting experience for customers.
