Requirements

  • Exceptional journalistic skills: Outstanding longform writing, excellent editing an eye for a story, and plenty of carefully-honed feature ideas.
  • Proven experience: A demonstrated expertise in feature writing, editing and the management of copy in an editorial environment.
  • Motivation: An enthusiastic self-starter who will put up their hand, develop ideas, own tasks and act independently.
  • Organisation and detail focus: Excellent organisational abilities, high standards, a keen eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Creative and commercial balance: Ability to align editorial content with brand objectives.
  • Industry knowledge: An understanding of luxury lifestyle is important, as is enthusiasm for learning about the superyacht industry.
  • Multiplatform expertise: Comfort working across various formats, including print, digital, and video is a plus (although you will be primarily working on print).
  • Public facing: Confident representing the company in the US and at international events.
  • Collaborative mindset: An inclusive, team-oriented approach is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Curate, shape and edit the contents of the monthly magazine.
  • Act as gatekeeper and champion of the US publication, using expertise to ensure it serves its readership.
  • Adapt content from BOAT International to better suit the American market, as well as commission or write US-specific content where necessary.
  • Work with designers and subs from issue start to finish, ensuring features and layouts meet the highest standards.
  • Stay on top of superyacht news and trends, support the Superyachts Editor and wider editorial team with identifying and securing features on the most exclusive new superyachts and interesting owners.
  • Feed relationships, ideas, tips and intel through to the editorial team, making connections and facilitating features, and writing if capacity allows.
  • Liaise with the London HQ regularly, as well as address and solve any issues related to the good functioning of the US publication.
  • Manage the US Editorial budget.
  • Represent BOAT US at boat shows, trade shows and BOAT events; cultivating and strengthening relationships with key editorial and commercial stakeholders, both in the US and internationally.
  • Engage with existing contacts while identifying and building connections with new partners to support the company’s growth and influence.
  • Develop strategic plans to enhance collaboration and expand the publication’s network within the luxury and superyacht industries.
  • Collaborate with the editorial team on content planning and delivery of marquee events such as the Superyacht Design Festival, Explorer Yachts Summit and Ocean Talks.
