We are seeking a US Assistant News Editor to oversee the editorial direction of DailyMail’s news teams, DailyMail apps, and social channels, reporting directly to the Head of News. In collaboration with the executive team, you will execute strategy and manage breaking news reporters, photo and video producers, and social/SEO staff. You will ensure quality, accuracy, and engaging output that meets the demands of a 24-hour global newsroom. You will need outstanding news judgment, the ability to identify stories that resonate with our readership, and the skills to develop long-term news planning. This role requires balancing editorial objectives in a fast-paced digital environment.

Requirements

  • Passion for the DailyMail brand, editorial voice, and global audience.
  • At least six years of newsroom management experience.
  • Strong track record of news gathering, editing, and leading teams in a fast-paced digital environment.
  • Ability to deliver accuracy and compelling storytelling under tight deadlines.
  • Skilled in writing and editing in high-pressure environments.
  • Knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources.
  • Excellent communication skills to work collaboratively with global editorial executives and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of breaking news reporters, photo and video producers, social editors.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to plan editorial direction and workflow.
  • Exercise sharp news judgment and use analytics to optimize headlines, decks, and presentation to in-house style.
  • Ensure quality control and oversee engaging copy, visuals, and multimedia across stories.
  • Collaborate with global desks to bring international content to US readers.
  • Mentor colleagues, providing feedback and fostering professional development.
  • Scout and help recruit new editorial talent.
