About The Position

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Physician (FM or IM) to provide onsite urgent care services at the Erie VA Medical Center. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, timely care to veterans in a fast-paced urgent care setting.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited institution
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible (Family Medicine or Internal Medicine)
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state
  • BLS & ACLS certification required
  • DEA registration (active or eligible)
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Experience in Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, or Acute Care settings preferred
  • Ability to independently manage a wide range of urgent care conditions
  • Proficiency in common urgent care procedures

Responsibilities

  • Provide urgent care evaluation, triage, and treatment
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Perform procedures as clinically indicated (e.g., laceration repair, I&D, splinting, etc.)
  • Stabilize and transfer patients when higher level of care is required
  • Document all encounters in the VA electronic health record (CPRS)
  • Provide discharge instructions and follow-up care guidance
  • Participate in consultations and referrals
  • Communicate test results to patients and providers
  • Adhere to VA clinical standards and protocols
  • Participate in patient safety and quality reporting
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Complete QA/QI documentation
  • Maintain timely and accurate medical records
  • Participate in performance evaluations (FPPE/OPPE)
