Urgent Care Physician Assistant

Emerald Resource Group•White Plains, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

People arrive worried, in pain, and short on time. You turn that visit into a clear diagnosis, the right treatment, and a safe plan before they leave. This role keeps access open when emergency departments are the wrong door and primary care cannot see them today. Success is measured in better outcomes, cleaner handoffs, and a clinic that stays calm under volume. You practice in a high-volume urgent care clinic beside a supervising physician, nurses, medical assistants, imaging, and front-desk staff. Protocols, on-site or rapid diagnostics, procedure supplies, and an electronic record support same-day decisions. You report to the medical director or lead advanced practice provider. Schedules include days, evenings, and weekends matched to demand, with dedicated clinical support and established referral paths. Real clinical ownership: you run the visit, not a narrow task list. Breadth without losing backup—procedures, diagnostics, and a physician partnership when acuity rises. A placement built as a career match, not a short fill, with room to grow into lead-APP responsibility. Schedule design that respects peak demand and recovery time. A team that treats access, safety, and patient clarity as the same job.

Requirements

  • Accredited physician assistant program graduate, NCCPA certification, and active state license or immediate eligibility.
  • Recent urgent care, emergency, or broad acute primary-care experience managing undifferentiated complaints independently within a collaborative agreement.
  • Proven procedural skill in laceration repair, splinting, and incision and drainage, with sound judgment on what not to attempt on site.
  • Documented ability to recognize red flags and execute clean transfers rather than stretch the setting.
  • Clear, efficient charting and patient teaching under time pressure, including after-visit instructions patients actually use.
  • Comfort with quality review—antibiotic use, returns, and patient feedback—and willingness to change practice from the data.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage a full urgent-care mix—respiratory illness, infections, injuries, lacerations, and musculoskeletal complaints—so most patients leave the same visit with a working diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up plan.
  • Hold safe throughput on peak shifts by completing evaluations, orders, and discharge instructions without deferring unstable or unclear cases.
  • Perform in-scope procedures—suturing, incision and drainage, splinting, and point-of-care test interpretation—with low complication and unplanned return rates.
  • Identify patients who need a higher level of care early and complete timely, complete transfers with the supervising physician.
  • Close labs, imaging, and referrals so abnormal results change the plan, not sit in a queue.
  • Improve stewardship and experience: appropriate antibiotics, clear instructions patients can follow, and fewer avoidable emergency transfers.
  • Set a consistent standard on your shifts by coaching peers and aligning nursing and front-desk flow around clinical priority.
