About The Position

SmartVet Veterinary Services is seeking to add an Urgent Care Associate Veterinarian to their team in Normal, Illinois. This is a new position designed to provide an additional level of care and accessibility to pets and their families in the Normal-Bloomington community. The role is ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys the fast-paced and varied nature of urgent care medicine, including problem-solving, treating patients needing timely medical attention, and working with a supportive team. The incoming veterinarian will also play a key role in helping to grow and shape the practice's urgent care services.

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure (Illinois veterinary license).
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Enjoys urgent care, same-day cases, and a diverse medical caseload.
  • Comfortable evaluating and stabilizing sick and injured patients.
  • Values collaboration and communication with both clients and team members.
  • Brings a compassionate, practical approach to patient care.
  • Excited about helping develop and grow a new service within an established practice.
  • Holds, or is eligible to obtain, an Illinois veterinary license.

  • Strong general practice background and excitement to expand urgent care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
