About The Position

This entry-level position clears rights-of-way under the direction of the ROW/Urban Forestry Crew Leader. The technician trims and maintains trees in rights-of-way using chainsaws, pole saws, hedgers, loaders, a limb truck, and a dingo. The position reports to the Street Dept ROW/Maintenance Supervisor.

The role also involves maintaining equipment, carrying out traffic control when needed, and communicating with the public and City staff. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. They must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License within one year of hire. Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check, including a driving-history check, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screen.

• Pass a criminal background check, including a driving-history check, a pre-employment physical, and a drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Operate chainsaws, pole saws, hedgers, loaders, a limb truck, and a dingo to clear and maintain rights-of-way by trimming and maintaining trees.
• Maintain equipment and keep it in ready condition.
• Place traffic cones and/or use traffic signs and flags to perform traffic control in accordance with the MUTCD manual, wearing a proper safety vest and PPE as needed.
• Interact and communicate with the general public, supervisors from all departments, co-workers, and office staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
