To carry out the mission at St Thomas Aquinas Upper School Libriarian role, the librarian performs the following separate but overlapping roles to link the information resources and services of the library media program to the information needs and interests of the school's students and staff. The librarian guides and directs all the activities related to the library program, advocating for the program and providing leadership for its creative and energetic direction in the twenty-first century. Proficient in the management of staff, budgets, equipment, and facilities, the librarian plans, executes, and evaluates the program to ensure its quality. The librarian provides expertise in acquiring and evaluating information resources, bringing an awareness of information issues to teachers, administrators, and students, and modeling strategies for locating, accessing, and evaluating information. The librarian works with students and other members of the learning community to analyze learning and information needs, locate and use resources, and understand and communicate the information provided. The librarian joins with teachers and others to identify links across student information needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and a wide variety of information resources, taking a leading role in developing policies, practices, and curricula that guide students to develop information and communication abilities. The librarian remains current in the media profession through conferences, workshops, professional reading, and classes, and works with community library personnel to coordinate efforts of common interest.
