About The Position

Key School is seeking to immediately hire a full-time Upper School (Grades 9–12) Humanities Teacher for the 2026–2027 academic year. Reporting to the Upper School Division Head, the position includes working in a team environment with faculty colleagues in both history and literature. Key School offers primary source-based interdisciplinary “Civilizations” courses for students in 9-11 grade. Ninth grade studies the ancient world, tenth grade studies the modern world and eleventh grade studies America. In all three, the traditional study of literature and history is combined with philosophy, religion, economics, and other fields. Seniors have a choice of topics in a comparative literature course. In all of these experiences, there is a strong emphasis on developing students’ reading, writing, research, and discussion skills through a combination of in-class activities, essay writing and creative projects.

Requirements

  • Educational background in history, literature or English
  • Experience teaching at the Upper School level
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching, including looking at curriculum through a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) lens
  • Passion for the Humanities disciplines
  • A self-starter with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, families, staff, and colleagues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish trust and credibility
  • Culturally responsive and nurturing teacher with the versatility to work with a diverse group of students
  • Experience collaborating with a team on curriculum development
  • Ability to partner with students in constructing understanding through reading primary sources and discussing ideas
  • Familiarity with learning management systems such as Google Classroom
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using various digital tools
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years of classroom teaching experience
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (i.e. Google Classroom)
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging multimedia content using a variety of digital tools
  • Proficient in using Google applications
  • Solid understanding of cloud-based storage and file-sharing platforms
  • Efficiently manage email and scheduling using Gmail and Google Calendar
  • Proficient in virtual communication tools such as Zoom or Google meet
  • Basic troubleshooting skills to resolve common technical issues that may arise in the classroom

Responsibilities

  • Teach multiple sections of Upper School Humanities
  • Advise a group of approximately 10 students
  • Proctor a club/activity and oversee duties such as study halls
  • Collaborate with Humanities colleagues in the Upper School and other divisions
