About The Position

Latin School of Chicago is hiring an Upper School English Teacher for maternity leave coverage for the 2026-2027 school year from early September to early March. Requirements

  • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3+ years teaching experience at the high school level
  • Background, training, and experience teaching from an identity-based perspective
  • Experience cultivating an inclusive and supportive climate for all students, especially students from underrepresented backgrounds, and who fosters appreciation for differences in our community
  • Commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and professionalism
  • Critical thinking and reflection skills to assess and improve existing processes
  • Strong communication skills, including spoken and written communication
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
  • Comfort integrating technology into the classroom and in lessons
  • Ability to curate materials in a Course Management System

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching East Asian literature and/or literature in translation preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 classes per semester: 2 sections of English 10: East Asian Literature and 2 sections of English 11: American Seeker
  • Attend department meetings and division meetings
  • Work closely with department members, department chair, and division director to design lesson plans and curriculum that is aligned and responsive to student needs; specifically, work collaboratively with the English 10 team on parallel assessments and with the English 11 team on the Earned Honors process and assessment evaluation
  • Write narratives on student progress two times per year
  • Cultivate an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students
  • Be available to students outside of class time for writing conferences and feedback, as needed
