About The Position

James Island Christian School (JICS) is seeking a dedicated and spiritually mature individual to serve as an Upper School Classroom Teacher for grades 6 through 12. The ideal candidate will be a professed believer in Jesus Christ, committed to nurturing students spiritually, academically, physically, and emotionally. This role requires a strong understanding of curriculum, effective teaching methodologies, and the ability to integrate biblical principles into daily instruction. The teacher will manage the learning environment, adhere to school policies, and engage in continuous professional and spiritual growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Certified by the state of South Carolina, and/or Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), or eligible for certification.
  • A teacher at James Island Christian School is a professed believer in Jesus Christ.
  • Believes that the Bible is God's Word and the standard for daily living.
  • Equipped with spiritual maturity, academic ability, and leadership qualities to nurture and grow students spiritually, academically, physically, and emotionally for life and eternity.
  • Must be in direct alignment with the school's mission, philosophy, and statements of belief.
  • Maintain current certification.
  • Consistently model Christ for students.
  • Mentoring students in their walk with Christ.
  • Maintain yearly Biblical continuing education units.
  • Fulfill Christian Philosophy of Education requirements.
  • Participate in required staff development sessions.
  • Maintain state and/or ACSI certification by completing and submitting required CEUs.
  • Focus on individual spiritual growth by regularly engaging in a personal Bible-centered devotional and prayer time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction for assigned students, grades, and subjects.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge and enthusiasm of the curriculum.
  • Use effective oral and written communication.

  • Deliver effective and varied instruction.
  • Select and use instructional aids effectively, including digital learning.

  • Provide academic challenge through depth of knowledge questions.

  • Manage the learning environment by maintaining a safe and conducive classroom environment.
  • Use time efficiently with both instructional and non-instructional tasks.
  • Redirect students from inappropriate to appropriate behavior, or from off-task to on-task behavior.
  • Submit lesson plans weekly to RenWeb/Curriculum Trak.
  • Complete curriculum calendars and unit plans in a timely manner.
  • Post grades on a weekly basis.
  • Attend parent conferences as needed.
  • Fulfill morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned.
  • Attend and fulfill duties at fine arts events.
  • Fulfill carpool, hall, parking lot, and restroom duties as assigned.
  • Supervise students outside the classroom.
  • Enforce dress code and adhere to the JICS discipline code.
  • Interact in a Christlike manner toward students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Communicate with parents and administrators in a timely manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Attend required faculty and worship meetings.
  • Adhere to JICS teacher expectations as defined by the staff handbook.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance.
  • Maintain current certification.
