About The Position

This position involves learning and performing upholstery tasks on assembled frames. The trainee will use various tools and equipment to attach filler material, fabric, and leather to frames, ensuring a precise and finished appearance. Responsibilities include operating pneumatic tools, cutting excess material, and performing finishing touches like tucking and buttoning. The role also involves moving frames using a transfer cart and potentially assisting with repairs. Upon completion of training, the individual will be expected to perform all accountabilities independently.

Requirements

  • Ability to use a transfer cart.
  • Ability to operate a pneumatic staple gun.
  • Ability to use scissors.
  • Ability to use a regulator (ice pick).
  • Ability to use a button needle and twine.
  • Ability to use a box cutter (razor blade).
  • Ability to use a rubber mallet.
  • Ability to pull and stretch fabric/leather.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring precise finishing.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to learn and perform upholstery tasks independently after training.

Responsibilities

  • Use transfer cart to move assembled frame from conveyor to upholstery lift.
  • Operate a pneumatically powered upholstery lift controlled by a foot pedal.
  • Staple filler material (foam) to the frame with a pneumatic staple gun.
  • Use scissors to cut excessive filler material from the frame.
  • Use pneumatic staple gun to attach fabric/leather to the frame, pulling and stretching to ensure desired fit.
  • Smooth and tuck seams using a regulator (ice pick) for a crisp finished appearance.
  • For tufted frames, use button needle to stick buttons and twine through fabric, pull tight, tie off and staple to the back of the frame.
  • Trim excessive fabric around finished wood portions of the frame with a box cutter (razor blade).
  • Attach plygrip to edges of frame with a pneumatic staple gun and use the regulator to tuck fabric.
  • Push tack band (metal strip) through fabric edges, roll once, and use a rubber mallet to attach to the frame.
  • Rarely lift frames off the assembly conveyor for repairs.
  • Use transfer cart to move frame back onto conveyor and push down the line.
  • Perform other duties/special or non-routine assignments as instructed.
  • After training, perform all accountabilities without assistance.
