About The Position

The University House Manager is responsible for directing the operation of all contracted housekeeping, grounds, and general maintenance activities for The University House. This role also involves coordinating events, managing budgets, and serving as a liaison between the House and various university departments. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on maintaining university standards and ensuring the smooth operation of the House and its grounds.

  • Proficient in Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides or any adjacent application (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Supervisory experience with the demonstrated ability to plan, communicate, organize and direct the work of others is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred.
  • Experience in related Facilities and Event planning is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the operation of all contracted housekeeping, grounds, and general maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate events designated to The University House.
  • Participate in the development and control of maintenance budgets.
  • Establish contracts with all contractors that work through the House, specifying and negotiating terms, evaluating performance, and ensuring university standards are maintained.
  • Purchase all cleaning supplies, equipment, and household items needed for the House.
  • Reconcile and pay all invoices pertaining to the House.
  • Direct the expenditure of funds and adjust operational activities within budget limitations.
  • Serve as a liaison between The University House and campus departments for maintenance issues, House events, and dining services.
  • Communicate with the grounds contractor to ensure proper landscape design and scheduling.
  • Coordinate with the Grounds Department for snow and refuse removal.
  • Communicate with the housekeeping contractor to plan and control cleaning schedules.
  • Identify maintenance issues by walking through the House and submitting work orders.
  • Identify grounds maintenance needs by walking through the grounds and reporting issues to the Grounds Department.
  • Ensure the House is secured by engaging locks and alarming as necessary.
  • May assume responsibility for a specialized area, such as EMU House residency.
  • Perform related Departmental duties as required.
  • Hire, train, and supervise housekeeping staff.
  • Communicate with the Physical Plant concerning projects in the House or on the grounds.
  • Schedule repairs and maintenance as necessary.
