About The Position

Altoros is looking for a Unity Support Engineer for a part-time position. This role involves regularly reviewing Unity SDK release notes, identifying and flagging breaking changes, assessing the impact of releases on the API contract, and performing compatibility patching when necessary. The engineer will also actively participate in incident diagnostics for issues like frozen screens, missing content, and configuration problems, clarifying root causes, and proposing/implementing fixes. Collaboration with the backend team and external stakeholders is key for documenting issues and workarounds.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working with Unity SDK, including understanding of release cycles and versioning strategies.
  • Experience with Unity Package Manager and dependency management.
  • Knowledge of best practices for upgrading packages without breaking the project.
  • Strong ability to read, analyze, and modify C# code within existing Unity projects (focus on diagnosis, debugging, and targeted patching).
  • Solid understanding of how a Unity standalone application consumes REST APIs (HTTP client usage in Unity, JSON serialization/deserialization, error handling and retry strategies).
  • Experience configuring and building Unity standalone targets for Windows and/or Linux.
  • Ability to reproduce and diagnose runtime issues locally in Unity using logs, breakpoints, and diagnostic tools.
  • Practical knowledge of Unity plugins and Package Manager (updating dependencies safely, resolving conflicts and version mismatches).
  • English level B2+ (comfortable reading technical documentation and runbooks, able to communicate clearly with clients and stakeholders).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Unity in the context of digital signage, Kiosk systems, Interactive displays (not traditional game development).
  • Basic understanding of Django REST API from the client perspective (how endpoints are structured, common patterns for configuration and content delivery).
  • Familiarity with GCP Cloud Run at a conceptual level (understanding what it is and how to interact with it).
  • Experience working with jump PCs / RDP for remote diagnostics (navigating remote environments, collecting logs and reproducing issues on remote machines).

Responsibilities

  • Regularly review Unity SDK release notes on a monthly basis.
  • Identify and flag breaking changes that may impact integration with Django.
  • Assess the impact of each release on the existing API contract.
  • Perform reactive compatibility patching on the Unity client side when SDK updates introduce incompatibilities or integration points with Django backend start failing.
  • Actively participate in incident diagnostics for issues such as frozen screens or stale content, missing or outdated content updates, and Unity client not receiving configuration from Django.
  • Clarify root causes of issues.
  • Propose and implement fixes.
  • Collaborate with the backend team and external stakeholders to document known issues and workarounds in runbooks.
