About The Position

The Unitizer Operator is responsible for operating a console that controls automatic strapping equipment to place strapping around units of corrugated paperboard products. This role is safety sensitive and requires the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. The operator will observe stacks/units moving along a conveyor, identify product, and detect defective product. They will apply dunnage to product according to load tag specifications and use console buttons to strap units/stacks to predetermined specifications. The operator also controls the conveyor that transfers strapped units/stacks to storage or a delivery platform, stops equipment to clear jams, and informs supervisors of any equipment malfunctions. Record keeping of production and equipment performance may also be required. The position involves working in a production-based environment with moving equipment and people, and requires the ability to interact and communicate effectively with various roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Safety sensitive position - ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required based upon the needs of the business

Responsibilities

  • Operate a console that controls automatic strapping equipment to place strapping around units of corrugated paperboard products.
  • Read load tag specifications to determine arrangement of strapping around units of corrugated paperboard products.
  • Observe stacks/units moving along conveyor to identify product and to detect defective product.
  • Apply dunnage to product to follow the specifications on the load tags.
  • Press console buttons to strap units/stacks to predetermined specifications.
  • Control conveyor that transfers strapped units/stacks to storage or delivery platform.
  • Stop equipment to clear jams.
  • Inform supervisor of in the event of equipment malfunction.
  • Keep records of production and equipment performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management/supervisors.
