About The Position

Herr Foods Inc. is a privately owned salty snack food manufacturer and distributor based in Nottingham, PA. They are seeking a qualified individual for their Unitizer Operator position to join their Nottingham, PA team. This is a full-time position with a schedule of Friday-Monday, 3:30 am - 3:30 pm. Additional hours may be required due to business demands. The company has been in business for over 75 years and emphasizes being an enjoyable place to work.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • High school education; or up to one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a current tow motor license.
  • Must possess a stable work history with good references and pass drug screening.
  • Must complete a background and pre-employment drug screen, as well as a preplacement screening which tests the ability to perform the physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior warehouse experience is preferred.
  • Prior Herr's warehouse experience is a plus.
  • A knowledge of product codes and warehouse procedures is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the unitizers, switches, and other equipment to ensure a smooth flow of product from production into the warehouse.
  • Keep machines operating at maximum performance to meet quality standards, including unit integrity, accurate unit counts, and code dates.
  • Manage the "Unitizer PC" for checking counts, changing destinations, entering items into lanes, and purging lanes when items are complete.
  • Keep the reject line clear to allow production to run smoothly.
  • Complete forklift inspections, document them, and submit inspection reports to the supervisor. Report any problems found during inspection immediately.
  • Count and load accurate quantities of product from holding lanes to unitizers.
  • Communicate with other shifts to maintain the proper flow of products into and out of the warehouse.
  • Purge finished products from holding lanes at the end of the shift and count lanes for accuracy by shift end.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during the day and work with the process lead and maintenance to resolve mechanical issues.
  • Conduct daily and weekly PMs (Preventive Maintenance).
  • Record mechanical issues that arise during the week that can be worked on during slower production runs.
  • Perform mechanical, pneumatic, and basic electrical repairs to all unitizer equipment and switches. Contact maintenance for repairs as needed.
  • Follow all rules set by the Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) and attend all related meetings and/or training sessions.
  • Commit to and operate by Manufacturing Execution System (MES) standards and procedures.
  • Wear proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when on duty.
  • Clean work area and machines. Keep the pallet storage area clean and organized and free of non-related items.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
