About The Position

This position classification is Hybrid, meaning job duties and expectations allow for onsite and remote work scheduled every week. Employees in this classification are regularly scheduled onsite one (1) to four (4) days per week based on the County needs and as determined by Department Director. Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference. At Adams County, we value workplace flexibility. This position will supervise a combination of both Assessment or Permanency duties depending on the need of the agency. Supervisors may oversee cases involving reports or evidence of domestic violence, neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and other child welfare or family safety concerns. Through their leadership and case consultation responsibilities, supervisors provide guidance and oversight to social caseworkers who serve a wide range of age groups, including infants, toddlers, elementary-aged children, pre-adolescents, adolescents, and young adults. Cases under their supervision may involve individuals from birth through age 21. Supervisors are responsible for managing and monitoring a diverse caseload across their team, ensuring appropriate case assignment, oversight, and support. The composition of cases within the unit may fluctuate over time, with higher or lower concentrations of specific case types or discipline areas based on the needs of the community and agency priorities. This position currently oversees caseworkers who primarily take sex abuse cases.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of full time professional social casework experience acquired after the degree in a public or private social services agency in an area appropriate to the position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the human behavioral science fields.
  • Must be eligible to become a certified supervisor through the State Child Welfare Academy or already be certified.
  • Possession of a valid driver's License and proof of automotive insurance.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Bilingual applicants are preferred and may receive a Language Pay incentive based on usage.
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle or other mode of transportation to make visits to client homes, travel to court, and other public facilities in all types of weather.
  • Ability to carry large case files.
  • Ability to conduct home visits in unknown and uncontrolled settings which may include animals, feces, airborne contaminants, gang members, weapons, and other environmental hazards.
  • Ability to obtain, maintain, and ensure continued access to State and County systems in strict compliance with all applicable county and state regulations, policies, and user agreements.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor of Social Work may substitute for 1 year of the required experience.
  • An MSW may substitute for 2 years of the required experience.
  • Proof of education, (degree or transcripts), and license (if candidate has received one) are required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides immediate and scheduled supervision, and case consultation to a team of caseworkers to ensure outcome measures are being met, assist with development of case planning to improve the outcomes for children, youth and families, barriers are addressed, and solutions are created.
  • Ensures the compliance of county, state, and federal mandates and utilization of tools identified in assessing the safety/risk of children.
  • Reviews unit and section statistical data on a regular basis to identify trends and patterns of staff/team performance and defines specific plans for training and staff development to ensure effective individual and team performance.
  • Provides support and ongoing mentoring for staff, as well as training for new staff.
  • Provides direct field supervision and observation of staff on a quarterly basis to assist with staff development and feedback.
  • Attends and/or facilitates group supervision, red team and staffing with collaterals and clients, as needed, to ensure continuity and appropriateness of services delivered.
  • Serves as a liaison between the agency and community partners, representing child welfare in multidisciplinary work groups, stakeholder meetings and collaborative initiatives.
  • Actively engages with service providers, law enforcement, medical and mental health professionals, advocacy organizations to strengthen partnerships and support best practices in child welfare.
  • Reviews and approves documentation, assessments and court reports while holding the shared responsibility of decision making as well as ensuring the appropriate involvement to address safety, wellbeing and permanency of children and youth.
  • Participates as an active member of supervisor leadership team to co-develop direction, outcomes, and program evaluation to ensure consistent leadership and effectiveness for staff.
  • Provide program updates to POD Manager and strategize program adjustments with other leadership team members, as needed, to ensure effective services and streamlined programming to best meet the needs of children and families.
