The secretary will report to the Emergency Department manager. He/she will assist with phones, data collection, copying and faxing. Other responsibilities include supply ordering and other tasks as assigned by the department manager. This role provides clerical support to clinical staff, including maintaining unit files, organizing patient care records, and preparing admission and pre-op charts. The secretary will also make arrangements for outside services, transfers, and ambulance services under the direction of the nurse. They must be able to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing workloads, and recognize emergency situations. Additionally, the role involves maintaining a safe work environment, transcribing physician orders accurately, and performing support functions for the manager/director such as payroll and typing. Participation in learning for colleagues and self, including assisting with new staff orientation and in-services, is also expected. The position involves restocking supplies by completing demographics on the charge card, and inventorying, ordering, and stocking all supplies to ensure patient care rooms are ready.
