About The Position

The Unit Secretary (US) in the Emergency Department (ED) at Texas Health Dallas is responsible for performing all tasks to meet the needs of physicians, staff, patients, and other customers. This role requires adaptability and flexibility to changing schedules and workloads to meet patient and unit needs. The Unit Secretary must demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, and other customers, serving as a patient advocate. The Emergency Department is a fast-paced, high-volume department averaging 200 patients per day, offering self-scheduling for work-life balance, opportunities for educational and career growth, and a robust Unit Based Council (UBC) with an engaged leadership team.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • No experience required
  • Recent clerical and computer skills preferred
  • Possess organization skills to function in a fast-paced work environment, positive interpersonal skills, and good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks to meet the needs of physicians, staff, patients, and other customers
  • Interactions include consideration for patient population specific needs
  • Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to changes in schedule and/or workload assignment necessary to meet changing needs of the individual patient or unit
  • Acceptable use of interpersonal relationship skills and communication with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, all disciplines and other customers
  • Serves as a patient advocate
