About The Position

Heywood Healthcare values its employees and offers competitive wages, great benefits, and generous earned time off. This Unit Secretary position in Oncology is a 36-hour per week role, working days. The schedule is Monday-Thursday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, and Fridays from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. This role does not require weekend work and includes most holidays off. The salary range for this position is $18.50 - $25.40 per hour, with final compensation determined by experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or the equivalent
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer knowledge including word processing skills

  • Reports Incidents in a timely and effective manner.
  • All employees with direct patient contact are responsible for actively engaging in the practice of, monitoring and enforcing compliance to hand hygiene.
  • Provides clerical support to clinical staff (e.g. maintains unit files, organizes patient care record, prepares admission and pre-op charts, etc).
  • Under direction of nurse, makes all appropriate arrangements for outside services, transfers, and ambulance services in a timely manner.
  • Appropriately prioritizes tasks adjusting to changing workload as necessary (e.g. seeks assistance as needed from appropriate resources, recognizes emergency situations, etc.).
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment (identifies and/or removes safety hazards).
  • Performs thorough, timely, and accurate transcription of physicians’ orders (including entering into Meditech OE module where utilized).
  • Performs support functions to manager/director such as payroll, copying, typing, etc.
  • Participates in the learning for colleagues and self (e.g. assist with orientation of new staff in-services, educational programs, etc.).
  • Coordinates patient testing by calling ancillary departments upon request.
  • Creates, copies and distributes mail and materials necessary for projects and daily activities.
  • Facilitates communication between the nursing unit and other departments so that everyone involved has current and accurate information as to patient's care.
  • Facilitates transfers and admissions through retrieving and copying medical records and sending and receiving faxes so that, documents arrive before or at the same time as patients.
  • Assists with facilitating room turnover to reduce the wait time of admissions.
