About The Position

As a Unit Secretary, you are an integral part of the nursing unit, which relies on your help with communications, process management, and supplies. This position provides administrative support for the assigned nursing unit, including maintenance and monitoring of the nurse call system, answering telephone and intercom calls, maintaining supply levels for the unit, and reporting unit needs to other departments such as Environmental Services and Maintenance. You will also support physicians and nurses as needed, perform daily rounding, and attend required meetings.

Requirements

  • Exceptional documentation skills and professional behavior
  • Excellent communications and organization skills
  • Demonstrated experience with PC and office software programs
  • In Long Term Care Only: Certification in NYS as Certified Nursing Assistant (as it applies to Unit Secretaries when performing as Certified Nursing Assistants)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Two years of related work experience in a healthcare setting or customer service setting preferred.
  • Effective verbal and/or written communication skills highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone/route calls, provide administrative support for nurses and physicians, sort and distribute mail.
  • Create work orders, HELPSTAR tickets, and report any unit requirements to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain inventory and supply levels for the unit.
  • Perform daily rounding of patients on the unit, update whiteboards and ensure all safety measures are in place.
  • Respond to patient’s call for service as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of arrivals and discharges on the unit.
  • Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation.
