About The Position

The Surgery Trauma Progressive Care unit is the primary unit for trauma patients at VCU. We are the only Level I Trauma Center in the Richmond area certified by the American College of Surgeons. Our patients have sustained complex traumatic injuries such as gunshot wounds, motor vehicle accidents, falls, and assaults. Apply to this fast-paced, high acuity unit that offers extra training in the care of complex trauma patients. Grow your knowledge in the care of patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, multiple drains, and complex wound care. The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical tasks involved in preparing, maintaining and processing patient and unit activities, data and records.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Nice To Haves

Previous experience setting up and maintaining office system (organizational skills)
Previous experience with medical insurance, MIS, and medical terminology
Previous experience in a health care setting
Previous experience with Microsoft Office software
Previous experience with use of EMR
Completion of a Medical Terminology course

Responsibilities

Performs a variety of clerical tasks involved in preparing, maintaining and processing patient and unit activities, data and records.
Able to perform daily activities with minimal supervision.
Self directed in the accomplishment of routine activities.
Issues that involve violation of VCUHS policy or procedure that involve conflicts of a sensitive nature, or that would be considered unusual in nature are to be brought to the attention of the Nurse Manager (or designee) promptly as would be warranted by the immediacy of the issue.
Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
