About The Position

This job performs many functions which support patient care and the department. Handles admit/discharge/transfer functions, manages reservation and processing activities, manages phones and call bells, and refers requests from patients, family, and staff to the appropriate personnel. This job plays an important role in enhancing the patient experience by ensuring follow up to patient requests and needs in a timely fashion. Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • No work experience required
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the medical/healthcare industry
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Schedules procedures and tests with ancillary departments to provide timely and coordinated completion.
  • Organizes a manual patient medical record upon admission and maintains the manual medical record throughout the patient’s stay.
  • Assures that any manual forms left in the chart after patient discharge are scanned and/or sent to the HIM department in a timely fashion.
  • Admits patients in system when they arrive on the units, processes changes in location, discharges and transfers.
  • Maintains scripting with patients and call bell requests-clarifying their request, contacting the correct person, and providing time frame for response to request.
  • Utilizes Epic generated reports to assist Nursing management in maintaining appropriate supply levels.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
  • Complies with the Ochsner Health System Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct, including the immediate reporting of any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct; patient/employee safety, patient privacy, and/or other compliance-related concerns.
