About The Position

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport. We are seeking an experienced Unit Secretary - Medical Surgical/Telemetry (Full Time - Nights) Our ideal candidate provides administrative and clerical support to ensure efficient unit operations. This role serves as a central point of communication for staff, patients, physicians, and visitors while supporting patient care delivery through accurate coordination, documentation, and organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in acute care environment

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary communication hub for the unit, answering phones, call lights, and relaying messages promptly and professionally
  • Coordinate communication between nurses, physicians, ancillary departments, patients, and families
  • Maintain accurate patient records, charts, and electronic documentation in accordance with hospital policies
  • Monitor and manage telemetry-related documentation and ensure timely communication of critical information to clinical staff
  • Enter physician orders, admissions, discharges, and transfers into the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Schedule tests, procedures, and transport services as requested
  • Maintain unit supplies and coordinate ordering/restocking as needed
  • Support patient flow by assisting with admissions, discharges, and transfers
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient nursing station
