Position Summary: Provide clerical and secretarial services to the nursing unit assigned.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a unit secretary course is required.
• Must be able to read with comprehension and write legibly.
• Must be proficient in use of proper grammar.
• Must have knowledge of: Medical terminology Hospital policies and procedures; Infection control; Fire and safety regulations.
• Must demonstrate competency in the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum, skills lists and/or standards.

Nice To Haves

• Secretarial or clerical experience is desired.
• Previous hospital experience is desired.

Responsibilities

• Carries out the secretarial and clerical duties necessary for the efficient functioning of the nursing unit assigned.
• Communicates patient requests promptly to the nursing staff
• Orders and charges for supplies and equipment
• Schedules procedures and examinations with appropriate departments
• Notifies consults when ordered (physicians, classes, etc.)
• Maintains the patient record and efficiently operates the computer system
• Processes patient classification data either manually or via computer.
• Other duties as assigned.
