About The Position

The Unit Manager is responsible for supporting the nursing staff, auditing documentation to ensure consistency with facility policies, and acting as a liaison between facility staff and credentialed providers. The Unit Manager is heavily involved in admitting new patients, to include putting in orders and ensuring all admission assessments are completed by facility nursing staff. The Unit Manager also plays a vital role in clinical meetings each morning, reviewing all new admissions, new physician orders, and patient appointments from the previous day.

  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree (RN or LPN/LVN) from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership position in a skilled nursing facility/long term care facility or similar healthcare facility
  • Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • Must have a working knowledge of managed care rules, regulations, and guidelines
  • Good standing in the state registry is required
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN in the applicable state

Responsibilities

  • Entering orders for new admissions
  • Reviewing medication list for new admissions with providers.
  • Attending clinical meeting each day.
  • Reviewing new admissions from the prior day during clinical meeting to ensure all assessments are completed and medications are entered/ordered properly.
  • Review new orders each day in clinical meeting, in addition to any follow up from the previous day’s appointments.
  • Supporting nursing staff on the floor, assisting when necessary
  • Acting as the supervisor to include assisting with call outs, completing RN assessments on facility incidents, falls, and resident concerns
  • Reviewing labs daily with providers and ensuring new physician orders are followed through.
  • Participating in the nursing manager on-call schedule, taking call on assigned rotating weekends
  • Completing 24 hour report and providing a detailed handoff of any follow up or outstanding items to the oncoming nursing supervisor to ensure continuity.
