About The Position

The Unit Manager oversees a designated unit within the facility’s production department and reports directly to the Production Manager. The role manages and coordinates daily unit operations to meet production targets while maintaining quality, safety, and efficiency standards. It supervises and supports production supervisors, providing leadership and direction to help achieve departmental objectives. The position plans production activities, manages staffing and resources, monitors quality and performance, and works with cross-functional teams to address issues and improve processes. It also maintains production procedures, analyzes operational data, controls expenses, and communicates priorities across production and other departments.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven experience in production management or a related field, including at least 4 years in a food manufacturing environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills, including the ability to inspire, motivate, and develop teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with employees at all organizational levels and external stakeholders.
Solid understanding of food manufacturing processes, quality management systems, and regulatory requirements such as FDA and USDA requirements.
Proficiency in production planning and scheduling, budgeting, and cost control techniques.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with an emphasis on data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodology, and other process improvement methodologies.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to changing business needs.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree preferred.
Certification in production management or a related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage assigned production unit operations in accordance with production schedules, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Supervise and support production supervisors through leadership, coaching, training, and performance management.
Plan and coordinate production activities, including staffing, resource allocation, equipment utilization, and workflow optimization.
Monitor production processes and quality control measures, identify improvement opportunities, address issues, and ensure product quality and compliance with specifications.
Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, quality assurance, and logistics to resolve production issues, optimize processes, and drive continuous improvement.
Implement and enforce safety protocols, including safety inspections, training, and enforcement of safety policies.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, and production best practices.
Analyze production data, performance metrics, and KPIs to track performance, identify trends, and improve efficiency, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
Manage production expenses within budget, identify cost-saving opportunities, and optimize resource use and waste reduction.
Communicate goals, priorities, and expectations among production supervisors, management, and other departments, facilitating collaboration and alignment.
