However, we encourage candidates who may fall outside of this range to apply as well. About the role We're looking for a Unit Manager to join our Auto Underwriting Team! This full-time permanent role requires a minimum of three (3) days per week working from the Dartmouth, NS office. Requirements

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in Coaching and Staff Development required
  • Skilled in leading and driving change
  • Proven ability to foster engagement and trust by promoting open communication, collaboration, and a supportive high-performing team environment
  • Demonstrates Leadership Success Factors
  • Experience in Commercial Lines is a valuable asset
  • Comfort with handling performance conversations and navigating sensitive issues
  • Strong proven leadership skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of staff and brokers
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills for thriving in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail
  • No Canadian work experience required, but eligibility to work in Canada is necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of or progress towards a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and support that builds skills and accountability, ensuring individual growth aligns with daily performance expectations and service outcomes.
  • Set clear daily priorities; assign work and adjust staffing based on volume and needs.
  • Monitor service levels, turnaround times, and workflow queues to ensure commitments are met.
  • Support onboarding and training; partner with senior leaders on development plans.
  • Maintain a positive, accountable team culture focused on service excellence.
  • Establish and maintain service levels by organizing and/or monitoring workflow and setting priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement leadership strategies, organizational structure, and processes/technology improvement initiatives
  • Provide effective leadership by continuously keeping staff informed on changes/results and share responsibility for the overall performance, productivity and engagement of team members.
  • Audit policies to ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the commercial managers in key brokerage offices on accounts, plans, and/or results.
  • Develop and manages effective working relationships with brokers, staff, and other departments.
  • Establish and maintain service levels by organizing and/or monitoring workflow and setting priorities to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity.
  • Assists with the development of the unit's expense budget.
