About The Position

The Unit Facilitator serves as a Hospitality/Service Excellence Ambassador, responsible for greeting and directing patients, visitors, and hospital personnel. This role actively participates in unit-specific initiatives to enhance patient, colleague, and physician satisfaction scores. The Unit Facilitator also handles phone calls, assists with the admission process by ensuring rooms are ready for incoming patients, and participates in Service Excellence Committee meetings as needed.

  • Ability to copy and submit restraint sheets.

Responsibilities

  • Greets and directs patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • Participates in unit-specific efforts to improve patient, colleague, and physician satisfaction survey scores.
  • Answers phone, directs callers appropriately or takes messages.
  • Participates in Service Excellence Committee meetings as requested.
  • Assists with the admission process, including inspecting patient rooms prior to arrival.
  • Participates in patient rounding.
  • Answers call bells in person.
  • Assists patients in completing dietary selections.
  • Distributes ice and water to patients.
  • Performs 1:1 patient observation as assigned/needed.
  • Receives and responds to requests from patients, colleagues, physicians, and families.
  • Pages and/or locates physicians and other personnel.
  • Notifies RN when a patient is called for OR or a test.
  • Informs RN of "stat" orders immediately if notified by a physician.
  • Participates in the orientation of new colleagues.
  • Participates in the report and hand-off process with nursing staff.
  • Checks fax machine for missed laboratory specimen reports and places them in the designated log book.
  • Receives and/or reviews all written, verbal, and electronic communication and responds appropriately.
  • Notifies appropriate physician or colleague of receipt of faxed communication and manages faxed information.
  • Works collaboratively with Charge RN to facilitate patient discharges.
  • Facilitates transportation services.
  • Assembles and maintains patient charts in the prescribed order.
  • Reviews charts for correct orders, correct charts, and necessary forms.
  • Files labs and reports in the correct patient record.
  • Initiates universal forms during computer down times.
  • Prints appropriate forms from FormsFast.
  • Checks for progress notes, prints, and adds them to the patient chart.
  • Obtains and stores "past" medical records.
  • Verifies primary care physician and patient’s home phone number with the patient and corrects the face sheet.
  • Verifies that observation status patient records are housed in the appropriate observation chart.
  • Generates Meditech reports as directed.
  • Monitors for consult orders, contacts consultants, and documents notification.
  • Copies restraint sheets daily and submits them to the Patient Care Manager.
