About The Position

This UNIT DEPLOYMENT MANAGER is located within an Air National Guard (ANG) Force Support Squadron, Commanders Support Staff (CSS) and is part of the CA 146 AW. This is a T5 EXCEPTED SERVICE, PERMANENT POSITION. The primary purpose of the UNIT DEPLOYMENT MANAGER, GS-0301-9, is to function as the Unit Deployment Manager (UDM), responsible for executing, coordinating, and overseeing all aspects of personnel and equipment readiness and deployment planning in support of Air Force Force Generation (AFFORGEN) requirements. The position resides within the infrastructure and support functions of the state National Guard; the incumbent is not subject to mobilization, nor is the work described part of the military mission; and the incumbent does not perform a key advisory or essential administrative role that is inherently military. In addition, the position must meet one of the following: It does not have a comparable military function; the position is required in full-time (civilian) role when the organization, or similar military position, is mobilized to perform continuing post-mobilization functions; or the position requires a skill or competency that necessitates technical expertise or professional qualifications that cannot be readily found in the military structure of the state military force.

Requirements

  • Must have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 level, or equivalent pay band in other pay systems in the Federal government.
  • Specialized experience may have been demonstrated by performing duties such as: planning, organizing, and overseeing all unit level deployment activities; Experience reviewing deployment documents to identify personnel and equipment taskings; Experience maintaining deployment equipment readiness.

  • This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration.
  • Head of Agency requests to exceed 14 days in a calendar year must be approved in advance.
  • Security Clearance: at a minimum a National Agency Check is required prior to position assignment.

  • Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work required or have a combination of education and experience. Responsibilities

  • Coordinates movement with Installation Deployment Officer (IDO) and Traffic Management Flight for Air Force Force Generation (AFFORGEN).
  • Manages unit readiness reporting through the Defense Readiness Reporting System (DRRS).
  • Manages unit deployment operations in coordination with the Installation Deployment Readiness Center.
  • Monitors readiness using the AFFORGEN-Connect Commanders Toolkit and Military Personnel Data System.
  • Maintains electronic Deployment Readiness Checklists (e-DRCs) and Air Force Deployment Folders(e-AFDFs).
  • Conducts reviews and ensures checklist accuracy.
  • Provides technical guidance to leadership on unit deployment capabilities.
  • Advises the commander on tasking response, shortfall mitigation, and application of deployment policies.
  • Interprets Joint, Air Force, and MAJCOM planning guidance and briefs leadership on applicable requirements.
  • Develops workload mitigation plans to maximize deployable capability.
  • Evaluates Unit Type Code (UTC) package composition and recommends changes based on unit capability.
