About The Position

Unit Clerk is responsible for the day-to-day clerical operations of the nurse’s station. Assists with admissions, discharges, transfers, medical records, communications etc. Communicates with MD offices by phone and fax, communicating with residents and families regarding appointments and orders. Adding new orders to PCC, faxing to the pharmacy and communicating them to the nurses and staff.

Requirements

  • Current California Certified Nursing Assistant Certification required
  • Current First Aid / CPR certification required
  • Minimum of 2 years of CNA experience desirable
  • Three to six months of clerical experience in healthcare environment preferred
  • Long Term Care experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Greets families and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner; directs them to resident rooms or to specific personnel for appointments; answers basic questions from patients, family members, physicians and/or guests; refers questions to charge nurse as appropriate.
  • Answers telephone, radio calls, resident call lights and alarm panel in Health Center and provides information or relays messages to patients and nursing staff.
  • Provides clerical assistance to the Residential Continuing Care units (AL, SCR, RHC), including but not limited to photocopying, faxing, stocking office supplies, sorting and forwarding in-coming mail; collects and drops off outgoing mail on a daily basis and work orders to maintenance.
  • Assembles and maintains patient medical records in an orderly manner as established by facility policy; files require medical records.
  • Audit charts for completeness and accuracy including but not limited to telephone orders, I&O sheets, C.N.A. flow sheets and medication/treatment sheets.
  • Calls lab for requests for pick-ups; processes forms and follow-ups on lab completed paperwork; files completed lab paperwork in patient chart.
  • Coordinates resident appointments both internal and external including contacting transportation and arranging for appointment pick-up/drop-off, arranging escorts, arranging beauty parlor appointments, etc.
  • Assists residents in activities of daily living including, but not limited to: ambulation, bathing, and dressing, eating, minimal meal preparation, serving, clearing, and cleaning of dining areas, toileting, hygiene, and activities.
  • Light housekeeping of individual units may include bed making, dusting, and other general cleaning as needed between regularly scheduled Housekeeping visits.
  • Promptly reports changes and any unusual occurrences regarding residents to Licensed Nurse or Director of Residential Continuing Care.
  • Assists in transporting residents via wheelchair to and from activities, programs, dining rooms, and/or pick-up points for transportation.
  • Follow established performance standards and performs duties according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Completes in-service program participation requirements, attends all department mandatory and scheduled meetings, and maintains current certification.
  • Performs any other relative, relevant duties as assigned.
