About The Position

The Unit Secretary will be responsible for the reception, communication, clerical activities and other related assigned duties of the unit, under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. As a Unit Clerk you will offer assistance, handle inquiries and supplies information to physicians, visitors, patients and hospital personnel in a courteous professional manner. You will organize work to maintain an efficient flow through the department, answer the patient call system promptly and courteously, and use the approved system for alerting staff of patient needs. You will coordinate and process efficiently the admission, transfer and discharge of patients, and enter departmental charges appropriately, accurately and efficiently. You will also assist in the orientation/training of new Unit Secretaries, possess good organizational skills and work in an organized manner. Chart reports promptly (x-ray reports, EKG reports) and maintain charts with adequate number of additional chart forms. Perform other related duties specific to unit as delegated by Nursing Unit Manager (Payroll, and refrigerator). Maintain policy and procedure manuals and Medical Dental roster book. Update daily physician on call schedule for the department.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or physician practice setting required.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Good communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Medical Terminology desired.
