About The Position

The Unit Clerk CNA - Emergency Department position is a PRN role responsible for preparing records, processing orders, and providing patient care in a hospital setting, supporting the nursing philosophy. This role may include weekends, holidays, day, evening, night, and/or on-call hours. The position involves processing orders and patient charges accurately and timely, answering telephones and call lights, directing visitors, maintaining medical records, managing supplies, and providing patient care as assigned according to CNA duties and expectations. The role also includes documenting care, maintaining a clean environment, floating to various units as needed, participating in performance improvement activities, verifying charge accuracy, and facilitating a welcoming environment. Specific tasks include assembling patient folders and charts and setting up the Rauland responder/Vocera/versus system for new staff.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CNA program.
  • Completion of a Unit Clerk course or equivalent on the job training (which can be provided).
  • Nursing Assistant Certification in applicable state.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Processes orders and patient charges in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Answers the telephone and call lights in an appropriate and timely manner, providing information or relaying messages to patients and staff.
  • Directs visitors to patients' rooms.
  • Maintains medical records of current patients.
  • Maintains supplies, including scanning, stocking, and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
  • Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures according to CNA job duties and expectations.

  • Maintains a clean work and patient environment.
  • Floats to various units based on identified needs.
  • Participates in department and unit performance improvement activities.
  • Verifies accuracy of charges entered.
