About The Position

The Unit Sec/Med Asst provides basic, quality patient focused care in clinical setting under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with the standards of practice within guidelines of corresponding state regulations. Performs patient care, clerical and operational coordination for the department. Coordinates and participates in a variety of duties associated with daily clinic preparation process, patient identification, patient check in/out and patient appointment scheduling. This employee also maintains department patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients, and assists physicians, advance practice providers, and nurses to provide optimal care to patients and families. Conveys a positive image and provides information to ensure patient's needs are met.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Answers call lights and offers comfort measures to patients in coordination with nursing staff.
  • Sends instruments for sterilization.
  • Establishes and maintains positive customer relations and contributes to a harmonious work environment.
  • Documents appropriate data in patient chart when care is provided.
  • Maintains all department equipment in a functional manner.
  • Orders supplies and equipment from storeroom and specific vendors as needed.
  • Performs wound irrigations, wound repair, wound dressings and surgical preps under the direct supervision of the physician.
  • Politely greets patient and family members.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls and communicates needs to clinic staff.
  • Responsible for scheduling patients and taking new patient referrals.
  • Answers telephone, takes and delivers messages to physicians, nurses and others.
  • Reports medical information obtained from patients and referring physicians accurately, completely and in a timely manner.
  • Distributes all messages according to practice communication standards.
  • Trained or competent to initiate and secure prior authorizations as needed.
  • Ability to build and maintain EPIC schedules.
  • Manage provider or department schedules: rescheduling patients, reviewing schedule for errors, making and submitting template changes to the Cadence team.
  • Maintains files for patients.
  • Assists with follow up calls, inventory of supplies, and other administrative reports.
  • Assists nursing staff with direct patient care within scope of practice.
  • Facilitates patient throughput into and out of the department by assisting with rooming.
  • Stocks supplies, as needed.
  • Can collects vitals and rooms patients in a timely manner.
  • Assists with preparing the rooms for clinic patient visits.
  • Assists with dressing removals, wound cleansing and other duties as assigned by the RN.
