Unit Associate / Monitor Technician, Per Diem, Day Shift
About The Position
Adventist Health Simi Valley is seeking a Unit Associate / Monitor Technician to provide clerical support to the nursing team and monitor patients’ cardiac rhythms using telemetry equipment. The position greets and directs visitors, maintains medical records, responds to patient requests, and provides information to patients, families, and physicians. It also monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms, identifies common dysrhythmias and monitor malfunctions, and relays relevant information to appropriate personnel. The technician helps keep the unit running smoothly by prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines. The role continuously monitors EKGs, documents arrhythmias, and reports significant changes to physicians. It includes routing patient reports, performing EKGs and Holter monitor replacements in various settings, maintaining designated equipment, and checking and replenishing telemetry supplies. Other job-related duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school education, GED, or equivalent is required.
- CPR certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy is required.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM), or TEAM-A certification is required.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s or technical degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- One year of relevant experience.
- Cardiac Rhythm Recognition coursework.
- Critical Care Dysrhythmia electrocardiogram (EKG) coursework.
Responsibilities
- Greet and direct visitors.
- Prepare and maintain medical records.
- Respond to patient requests for assistance.
- Provide information to patients, families, and physicians.
- Provide clerical support to the nursing team, including routing patient reports.
- Continuously monitor EKGs, document arrhythmias, and report significant changes to physicians.
- Monitor cardiac rhythms using telemetry equipment; interpret basic rhythms and common dysrhythmias and identify monitor mechanical malfunctions.
- Read, interpret, and relay pertinent cardiac-monitor information to appropriate personnel.
- Perform EKGs and Holter monitor replacements in a variety of settings.
- Maintain cardiac monitors, pulse oximeters, phototherapy lights, mist tents, and Dinamap equipment.
- Check patient supplies such as telemetry batteries, electrodes, and pouches weekly, and order supplies when necessary.
- Prioritize work to keep the unit running smoothly and meet deadlines.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
